Honest service that works – powered by real techs.
An oven that fails to light in bake or broil mode often needs an igniter replacement. The igniter provides the heat and signal for gas valves to open. Weak or failed igniters glow but never reach the required temperature, leaving food uncooked. Replacing a faulty igniter restores proper ignition and prevents raw meals.
Symptoms include oven not heating, glowing igniter with no flame, long preheat times, or repeated clicking in spark models. Food remains undercooked despite cycles running. Gas smell without ignition is another sign. Inconsistent baking results or partial heating also point to weak igniters.
Quick fixes: verify gas supply is open, reseat oven racks away from vents, reset breaker, and confirm no control lock. If igniter glows weakly, it must be replaced. Test continuity and amperage; under 3.2–3.6A typically means replacement. Do not bypass safety circuits.
Common error codes include F9 (ignition fault), F90, or F30 families in Whirlpool/Maytag; Samsung/GE may show F76/F77 for ignition issues. Bosch and Electrolux often display generic heating error codes or symbols when ignition fails. Some ovens produce no code, just no flame.
Call a pro if the oven continues not to light after a new igniter, or if gas odor persists. Techs can verify valve function, test control relays, and ensure gas safety. For wall ovens or built-ins, professional replacement avoids damage. Proper repair restores safe ignition and cooking performance.
