COI (Certificate of Insurance)
Available on request - usually not required in Brooklyn, but often asked for in Manhattan buildings and co-ops. Please remember that certain issues can come from incorrect use or installation, not from parts failure - our technicians will always point that out and show how to prevent it in the future.
Warranty & Compliance
Every repair is covered by a 180-day warranty on both parts and labor. If the appliance is older, keep in mind that some surrounding components can wear out over time — sometimes one repair leads to another part showing its age. We always explain options clearly before doing extra work.
Safety & Courtesy Protocol
We treat every visit like we’re guests in your home. Technicians wear shoe covers or remove footwear when entering, and we always clean up after the job. If you notice a little dust or debris left behind - our apologies - each tech handles 3-5 appointments per day and works to stay on schedule. If your window was 11-1, the technician usually arrives closer to 11; if running late, we’ll text you right away. Our goal is simple: work clean, stay safe, and respect your space and time.
Coverage
We cover Brooklyn—Downtown, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bed-Stuy, Carroll Gardens, Prospect Heights, and Flatbush—and Manhattan (below 96th Street)-FiDi, Battery Park, Tribeca, SoHo, Chelsea, Midtown, UES, UWS, Gramercy, and the Village. You’ll receive a text alert ~30 minutes before arrival.
Why Volt & Vector
We’ve spent years working inside large NYC repair companies - seeing how real technicians get buried under rushed schedules, fake “same-day” promises, and endless call-center noise. Volt & Vector grew out of that frustration. We wanted a place where diagnostics still matter, where techs can take time to do the job right and talk to people directly. We’re not calling ourselves perfect - far from it - but we’re building the kind of service we always wanted to work for: respectful, transparent, and run by people who actually fix things.
Pricing & Diagnostic Policy
Our diagnostic visit is always billed at the first appointment - that’s the starting point for every repair. After the visit, the technician sends full details to our service desk. Sometimes the tech can give a price range on-site, but we’re moving away from instant quotes - parts pricing changes like crypto these days, and we’d rather stay accurate than promise the wrong number.
Simple issues - like a clogged drain, loose wire, or minor reset - can often be fixed on the spot starting from $99. If a full repair with parts is needed, total cost varies by brand and model - just like in any NYC company, it can start around $320 and go up depending on parts and labor. We believe in clarity over surprises. You’ll always see the diagnostic results and estimate before any repair begins.
Volt & Vector Appliance Repair provides residential appliance repair in New York City with a diagnostics first workflow. We verify the failure mode on site (electrical, mechanical, airflow, water management, controls) before recommending parts or repair steps. The goal is a confirmed root cause, fewer repeat visits, and fewer wrong part orders.

Symptom to diagnosis map (how we confirm root cause)
• Appliance is dead, no lights
Likely cause class: power supply, cord, outlet, breaker, internal fuse
How we confirm: verify supply voltage, load behavior, continuity where accessible
• Trips breaker or GFCI
Likely cause class: short to ground, heater fault, motor fault, moisture intrusion
How we confirm: isolate loads, check insulation behavior, inspect for moisture or heat damage
• Refrigerator warm, freezer OK (or the reverse)
Likely cause class: airflow issue, defrost system, fan, sealed system risk
How we confirm: temperature mapping, fan operation, defrost pattern, coil condition
• Dishwasher not draining
Likely cause class: drain path, pump, check valve, air gap, disposal connection
How we confirm: drain flow test, obstruction check, pump load and noise pattern
• Dishwasher not filling
Likely cause class: water supply, inlet valve, float, error state
How we confirm: supply pressure, valve actuation, float response, leak tray status where applicable
• Washer not spinning
Likely cause class: door lock, motor control, imbalance, drain not completed
How we confirm: lock status, tach feedback, drain completion, error history and load behavior
• Dryer takes too long
Likely cause class: airflow restriction, heater control, sensor drift, ventless maintenance
How we confirm: airflow and back pressure checks, temperature rise behavior, sensor plausibility, lint path inspection where accessible
• Oven will not heat
Likely cause class: power delivery, heating circuit, igniter, control logic
How we confirm: voltage at load, element draw, ignition response, sensor plausibility
• Oven heats unevenly
Likely cause class: sensor drift, airflow pattern, convection behavior, door seal issues
How we confirm: temperature checks across zones, fan behavior, gasket integrity, venting and cooling behavior
• Gas burner will not ignite or keeps clicking
Likely cause class: ignition path, electrode condition, grounding, moisture, switch path, gas delivery
How we confirm: spark at electrode, burner seating, flame sense behavior, confirm whether ignition system still requests spark after flame is present
• Induction turns on then off
Likely cause class: pan detection, power delivery, inverter protection
How we confirm: pan detection behavior, error state review, supply stability under load
• Water under unit
Likely cause class: fill path leak, drain leak, pump seal, hose issue, tub risk
How we confirm: trace leak origin by staged test, inspect connections, verify when leak starts in the cycle
NYC constraints that affect repair time and access
• Built in appliances and tight cutouts can require careful removal planning to access components safely
• High rise access and building rules can affect arrival logistics (freight elevator scheduling, service windows, COI requests)
• Venting limitations are common, especially for dryers, and airflow testing is part of diagnosing long dry times
What we do on a diagnostic visit
- Confirm the symptom and reproduce the condition when possible
- Collect platform signals (temperatures, airflow, water flow, electrical loads, control calls and responses)
- Rule out installation variables when relevant (venting, drainage, water supply, leveling, power quality)
- Isolate the failing subsystem (heater, pump, fan, sensor, control, mechanical assembly)
- Provide a repair path tied to verified findings, including what we tested to confirm
Safety and boundaries
Stop and contact a technician if any of the following are present:
• Burning smell, visible arcing, breaker trips repeatedly
• Active leak that is spreading or reaching electrical components
• Gas odor
• Repeated ignition clicking with no flame
• Refrigerator compressor extremely hot with no improvement in cooling
We focus on repairs that can be confirmed and warranted. If a failure mode cannot be verified due to intermittent behavior or access limitations, we document what was tested and what would be required to confirm next.
Warranty (plain language summary)
Completed repairs include a 180 day parts and labor warranty on the work performed, provided the same failure mode reoccurs in the repaired system under normal use. Warranty does not cover unrelated failures, new issues in other components, misuse, or conditions caused by installation problems outside the repaired scope.
