Dryer heating element replacement

Dryer Runs but No Heat: What It Usually Means

If your dryer tumbles but the clothes stay cold or damp, the heating element is the usual culprit. A cracked or burned-out coil lets the cycle run endlessly without ever reaching temperature. You might also see mid-cycle stops, extra-long dry times, or catch a faint hot/electrical smell.

What people often suspect: thermostat or vent.
What we actually find most often: a failed heating coil (especially on high-use machines or those with restricted ventilation). This pattern shows up a lot on Samsung, Whirlpool, and GE families, but any brand can do it when lint/airflow issues overheat the element.

Why elements fail

  • Restricted airflow (linted screen, crushed/long vent, clogged exterior hood) → high heat stress.
  • High-temp cycles back-to-back, heavy loads, or poor install clearances.
  • Aging terminals and heat-soaked connectors that arc or loosen.
  • Safety chain events (blown thermal fuse/high-limit trips) that mask an underlying airflow problem.

Gas dryers: Similar “runs but no heat” behavior, different root parts (igniter, flame sensor, gas valve coils). We diagnose fuel and ignition separately.

What To Do Next (Quick Checks → On-Site Fix → Proof)

Quick checks you can do (safe & simple)

  • Vent/airflow: Clean the lint screen; go outside and make sure the wall hood opens and blows strongly during a cycle.
  • Power: For electric dryers, confirm the double-pole breaker—a half-tripped breaker can leave the motor running on 120V with no 240V heat. Reset fully.
  • Load & modes: Avoid overstuffed loads; turn off eco/low-temp modes for the test; try a timed heat cycle.
  • Stop if you smell burning. Unplug and book service.

What we do on-site (fast, targeted)

  • Observe: Run a live heat cycle and watch the temperature climb (or not), listen for relay clicks, and check airflow at the vent.
  • Test:
    • Element continuity and insulation to chassis (look for cracks/grounds).
    • Thermal fuse and high-limit/cycling thermostat function.
    • Motor draw, heater relay/triac output, and control response.
    • Back-pressure / vent restriction and the exterior hood operation.
  • Fix:
    • Replace the heating element (OEM), clean terminals, and secure wiring.
    • Replace a blown thermal fuse/high-limit, but also clear the root cause (vent crush, lint pack, hood flap).
    • For gas: igniter/flame sensor/valve coils as needed; correct burner airflow.
  • Verify (proof run):
    • Normal time-to-heat, stable temperature cycling, and proper auto-dry shutdown.
    • Strong exterior airflow, no hot-plastic smell, no error codes.
What you get: real heat restored, shorter cycles, safer temps, and less stress on motors and boards. We stock common parts for Samsung, Whirlpool, GE, LG, Maytag, KitchenAid, Electrolux, Frigidaire, Bosch and more, and back repairs with our 180-day parts & labor warranty (OEM parts only). Same-day windows available when you book before 2 PM.

Excellent experience with Vlad! He came day of to help fix a laundry machine issue. He was on time, a clear communicator about the issue and fixed it with ease. He came back the following day (at no charge!) when I reached out with further information about how the machine was working to confirm everything was working properly/as intended. Excellent service and will absolutely be working with them again when we have future needs. Can’t recommend enough!

Vlad has been an incredible asset. In the few months we've known him, he's already fixed a dryer, two washing machines, and an oven! He's always very upfront with the repairs needed and the associated costs with fixing an appliance. I wouldn't hesitate at all to hire him for any future appliances in need of repair

I split my time between Italy and NYC and manage several Airbnb units. Scheduling used to take too much energy around guest check-ins and turnovers. With Volt & Vector Appliance Repair, the routine became predictable: clear 2-hour windows (9–11am or 12–2pm), a text with ETA, written pricing (diagnostic credited), before/after photos, and a short summary after each visit. Over ~30 repairs in two years: washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, a refrigerator seal. They’ve kept me informed and moved quickly on parts (usually 24–48 hours when ordered). Access and lockboxes are handled without drama, work areas are left clean, and my reviews stayed steady. Hosting from abroad is easier when maintenance is this consistent. Strong recommend for Brooklyn and Manhattan hosts.

Amazing service every time! I work for a multi-use property in lower Manhattan and we have used Volt & Vector for at least 20+ jobs and I can honestly say they do incredible and reliable work. Vlad is a pleasure to work with, he is honest and his pricing is fair. Highly recommend!
